Berenice Dimas

Berenice Dimas is a queer, community-rooted herbalist, embodied bodyworker, and published writer whose work is grounded in Mexican Traditional Medicine and a deep reverence for ancestral healing. For over thirteen years, she has supported communities across Turtle Island as a practitioner and educator, with a focus on restoring practices that honor the earth, its medicines, and sacred traditions.

Berenice began attending births in 2014 and transitioned into partería with deep intention. She completed her Birth Assistant Training at La Matriz Birth in 2023 and has since rejoined La Matriz Birth Services as a senior student midwife in training to complete the final phase of her clinical requirements before becoming a licensed midwife through the National College of Midwifery. Her clinical training has also included work with Tourmaline Birth and Wellness Collective in San Diego, California.

With a B.A. from Cal State Fullerton and an M.A. from Texas Woman’s University, Berenice has served as a high school teacher and a District-wide Transformative Justice Coordinator in the East Bay. She is the founder of Hood Herbalism®, and her writings have been featured in The Curanderx Toolkit, Voices from the Ancestors, and Fleshing the Spirit.

At La Matriz Birth Services, we are deeply committed to raising the next generation of midwives. By mentoring student midwives like Berenice, we aim to uplift the profession and help grow a more diverse and culturally-rooted midwifery workforce—so that all families seeking midwifery care may find a provider who reflects their culture, language, and lived experience. As always, student participation in your care is completely optional and based on your comfort and consent.
